Dr. Daniel Hayford
Dr. Hayford was born in Bloomington, Indiana and grew up in Bloomington and Valparaiso, Indiana. He graduated from Valparaiso High School. His mother is a speech pathologist in the public schools and his father is a professor of business law.
Dr. Hayford completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His major coursework consisted of ecology and pre-med courses. While at Wake Forest, Dr. Hayford spent considerable time taking classes in politics, urban studies, and sociology. He developed a specific interest in issues of inequality, discrimination, race relations, and segregation.
Away from class, Dr. Hayford was active in the Wake Forest College Democrats. His most rewarding experience was volunteering for the state senate campaign of Linda Garrou, a Winston-Salem community leader. He also had the good fortune of working on the US Senate campaign of John Edwards in 1998.
After four years in North Carolina, Dr. Hayford moved to the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. There, he met a truly unique and diverse group of classmates with a wealth of knowledge and interesting life experiences. Dr. Hayford lived in Center City Philadelphia for four years and experienced urban life. In his time at Penn, Dr. Hayford met a very special group of friends including his wife, Nadia.
Dr. Hayford returned to Indiana to complete pediatric residency training at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He has treated patients in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings, including Riley Hospital for Children, Methodist Hospital, and Wishard Hospital. During his residency, Dr. Hayford served as the primary care pediatrician for children from newborn through adolescence at Forest Manor Health Center on the east side of Indianapolis. In the community, Dr. Hayford helped to design an advocacy project at IPS School 83. Students at the school successfully lobbied elected officials for passage of the recently enacted public smoking ban in Indianapolis.
Dr. Hayford took over leadership of Indianapolis Pediatric Associates in January 2008, and changed the name of the practice to Indianapolis Independent Pediatricians. He resides in Indianapolis with wife Nadia, daughter Lucy. They enjoy reading good books, going for walks in the evening, playing with Lucy, and becoming more involved in their community.
